Academy Training
The club Academy training for U6s to U12s continues every Friday evening with U6s, U8s and U10s from 6 to 7pm at Caherslee (V92X025). Those who have not tried hurling before are always very welcome to come along and give it a go. Hurleys and helmets will be supplied by the club for the first few weeks.
U10 Hurling
Tralee Parnell’s Under 10’s were in action for their second game of the season during the week in Caherslee. The boys faced tough opposition from a strong Ballyheigue team but it was a delight to see our players give it their all and not hold back from anything.
As always from the sidelines we had some fantastic encouragement from our parents and it drove them on no end. Well done to each and every player on a fantastic performance from everyone, training continues on Friday evenings.
U12 Hurling
Well done to our u12s who had a great battle with Ballyduff in Caherslee on Thursday evening. A big thank you to Donnacha Buttimer for refereeing the game.
U16 Hurling
The Under 16s had a great start in the Division 1 County League with a win away to Abbeydorney on a final score of 3-7 to 5-11.
Minor Hurling
The Minors were defeated by Ballyduff in the second round of the Division one County League on a final scoreline of 0-10 to 0-21.
Junior Hurling
In the final round of Division 3 County League, Parnells Juniors had a well-deserved victory over St Brendan’s in Caherslee on Monday night. Despite a slow start by both teams where scores were at a premium, St Brendan’s were better at taking their chances and led at half-time 2-4 0-7. Scores were traded after half-time and then the crucial moment came when James Smullen was fouled in the small square and Dan Maloney dispatched the resulting penalty to the net. This put Parnells two points ahead which was a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Further points from play followed from Shane Healy, Stephen Morrissey and Dylan Cunningham with Dan converting any placed balls that came Parnells way. Darragh Maloney making a welcome return to the Parnells jersey was a constant thorn in the St Brendan’s side and the defence as a whole held firm in the second half only conceding 0-4 points. Rathmore, who beat Parnells in round one, await in what will be a first County League final for Parnells Juniors. The match is set for Friday 23rd at 7pm with the venue yet to be decided.
Senior Hurling
Parnells fell short by six points in the final round of the Senior Hurling League against Lixnaw this evening, in what proved to be a fiercely contested encounter. Parnells began the game in fine form, heading into the break with a four-point lead after some excellent team play and well-taken scores. However, the second half told a different story. With several first-team players unavailable due to injury and other commitments and with Pip unfortunately joining the injury list during the first half Parnells struggled to maintain their first-half momentum. Lixnaw gradually gained the upper hand, due to a combination of sloppy play from Parnells and capitalising on their opportunities. In the final ten minutes, Lixnaw pulled ahead to secure the victory. Despite the result, it was another brave and determined performance from Parnells under challenging circumstances. We wish Pip a speedy recovery and extend our congratulations to Lixnaw on a great game. Best of luck to them in the upcoming Senior Championship. Thank you also to referee Michael Brown for officiating the game.
Family Fun Day
There was a great turnout for our family fun day on Sunday in Caherslee. There was something for all members of the family with Zumba dancing and games for the children. The barbecue was a big hit with families able to relax with great food and enjoy the sunshine. Thank you to all who joined this special occasion for our large Parnells family. A special thank you to those who contributed to the bake sale.
