Lá Fhéile Padraig

Míle buíochas do gach éinne a ghlac pairt sa paráid ar la fhéile Padraig. The club would like to thank all the young boys and girls that marched in the parade on St Patricks Day.  We had a great turnout in fantastic sunshine.  Many of the boys and girls displayed their hurling and camogie skills while others were busy waving the club flags and banners.

We had another fantastic attendance at the academy training last Saturday. Well done to all the girls and boys who came along.  Congratulations to our players of the week Kerry and Naoise.  With just two Saturday sessions remaining at MTU we hope to see an extra large turnout next weekend.  The session is for U6 to U10 boys and girls and takes place on Saturday from 3-4pm at MTU sports academy. Remember to bring a friend and if any parents are interested in getting involved in the Club please let us know! Boys and girls who have not tried hurling before are very welcome to come along and give it a go.  Hurleys and helmets will be supplied by the club for the first few weeks. €3 to cover the cost of the hire of the hall.

Schools Camogie

Congratulations to Presentation Tralee U16.5 Camogie Team who defeated Coachford College in the final of the Cork Colleges Cup with a score line of 1-7 to 1-1. The team was presented with the Kate Crowley Cup after playing an amazing game in terrible weather conditions. They led from the start with a huge team performance and sheer Kerry determination they came away with a well deserved win. Well done to all the Tralee Parnells players on the squad.

Senior Hurling

Abbeydorney hit the ground running in Caherslee last Saturday afternoon, no doubt having registered the result from Ballyheigue the previous week and realising Parnells intend to give the Senior Hurling County League a good effort in 2024.

The pitch was in reasonably good condition considering the inches of rain that had fallen in the previous days.  We had a few hours of partly sunny and breezy conditions pre-match, but it was still a wet and slippery surface to deal with, like most pitches at the moment. In the early minutes this contributed to a slip by a Parnells defender attempting to turn and his Abbeydorney marker lost no time in pushing his advantage to find the net.  It took Parnells a bit of time to find their scoring radar and by the time they opened their account, the visitors had added a few points to widen the gap.

In the latter stages of the first half, and on into the second period, the home side were more in the game and added regular scores to counter the Black and Amber tally.

Some stalwart defending and saves from Ryall in goals, kept the visitors from scoring as regularly as in the opening stages..  All clubs have to deal with the loss of county panel players when to comes to County League fixtures, but it probably has less impact on a club with a deep and strong panel, compared to ourselves who are still growing our club and panel and thankfully still integrating new players onto our squad.  However the absences of our county men presented opportunities for more Parnells players to get game time.

The points went to Abbeydorney, but among the positives for the townies were our scoring that ran to double figures and the opportunity for panel members to get the chance to play together in another competitive fixture.

Final score: Tralee Parnells 0-10 Abbeydorney 1-22
