U15 Feile:
Tralee Parnells U15s played their Feile qualifying competition in Caherslee last Friday evening. After a great victory over St Brendans in the first match 1-5 to 1-4, they played a strong Crotta side in their second game and went down on a scoreline of Parnells 1-3 Crotta 1-7 after a great battle. Their final match was against Ballyheigue and after a dominant performance in the 1st half by Ballyheigue, Parnells rallied in the 2nd half but just came up short. Final score Parnells 1-2 Ballyheigue 0-11. Parnells now go on to play in the Division 2 Semi-Finals next Sunday vs Kenmare/Kilgarvan. Well done to team and mentors. Thank you to all the volunteers who provided refreshments during the evening.
Senior Hurling
Tralee Parnells 1-19 Causeway 1-15
Last Friday evening in Caherslee under lights, in round three of division one of the Co Senior Hurling League, Parnells got their first points of the campaign with a hard fought but well deserved victory over Causeway. Following a narrow 1st round loss to Kilmoyley (and a bye in Round 2), Parnells were keen to make amends. There was nothing much between the sides after the 1st half with Causeway in a narrow lead having raised the only green flag.
Half Time: Tralee Parnells 0-8 Causeway 1-7
In the second half, Parnells started brighter but were guilty of a number of wides. As with the first half, Eddie Sheehy was tormenting Causeway with his mazy runs from midfield. A fine long range point from Cathal Dunne, as well as scores from debutant Dan Maloney, Cillian Litchfield and Oisin O’Brien were keeping Parnells in the game. A looping effort from the left wing from O’Brien deceived the Causeway keeper and it ended in the back of the net to put Parnells in the lead. Though Causeway were shooting some fine points of their own, the Parnells defence was solid, aided with the introduction of Rory Reen midway through the second half. A fine score from Darragh Reen and a number of converted frees from Dan Maloney, who took over the free-taking duties after Gearoid O’Doherty went off, kept the home side ahead and ensured that Parnells would register their first ever Division 1 league victory over North Kerry opposition. There won’t be much time to enjoy the win as Parnells are away to Ballyduff next Friday night on the centenary weekend of the formation of the North Kerry Hurling Board.
