Weekly Notes 29-6-22

Féile na nGael
Our U15’s had a magnificent day on Saturday in Stamullen Co Meath and made club history once again in winning the All Ireland Division 3 Feile na nGaeil championship for 2022.

After winning the Kerry Féile na nGael Division 1 competition an organising committee was setup to prepare for this weekend. The committee ran a number of fundraising events while also arranging all of the logistics involved in travelling to the finals. As a result of the funds raised, the club was able to ensure that the boys were well prepared including physio sesssions where required together with specially commissioned customised kit and bag. Wearing their new feile outfits the lads left Caherslee on Friday morning to head to their overnight accommodation at Maynooth university.

Proceedings got under way at 11am on Saturday as the lads played one of the toughest matches of the day against Mount Leinster Rangers of Carlow. Final score: 1-9 to 1-7. Their second match against Castlebar Mitchels finished on a score of 2-12 to 1-1. In their final group match the boys met Donaghmore Ashboure which ended on a score of 5-7 to 0-4.
Their next match was the semi-final for the cup where they were up against Padraig Pierses of Roscommon which ended with a final score of 3-9 to 0-0.
In preparation for the final, the boys and coaches retreated to the dressing room for some tactical discussions.
The cup final was against nearby club Trim. This was a low scoring tight match but our lads did lead from the start. Final score 0-9 to 0-2.

With much excitement and celebration the team captain Tomas O’Connell accepted the Michael Cusack Trophy.

The boys showed huge maturity throughout the day as they trusted in each other and really played as a team. They showed great passion and hunger to win every tussel. Well done boys on a fantastic achievement.

Huge credit must go to manager Brian Shannahan and coaches Mark, Andrew, Diarmuid, Morgan, Sean and David. This management team have guided and inspired the lads to work as a team and believe in each other.

Thank you must also go the organising committee as the whole event was very well organised with everything in place to support the lads.

There was a wonderful atmosphere in Stramullen on Saturday as a very strong Parnells contingent travelled in support. Thank you to all who made the journey to support the boys

Finally we would like to give a huge thank you to all businesses and individuals who donated to make this weekend possible. They are too many to mention here but full details can be found on our website and on our social media pages. Thank you also to everyone that donated to our Gofundme page https://gofund.me/695b4b20 and to those that attended the quiz night.

Intermediate Championship
Our senior hurling team are busy preparing for the intermediate club championship which starts this coming weekend. Their first match will be against Kenmare and takes place in Kenmare on Friday evening 1st July at 7:30pm. We hope that club members will travel to support the team.

Club Website
As our club is expanding with various apps and web pages it was decided that we should have a club website as a central location to find out everything about the club. The site is mobile friendly and includes links to our club shop, social media pages, Clubforce as well as various policies and procedures. Our existing blog site (https://traleeparnellshurling.blogspot.com) which contains every club news item since the club was formed in 2012 will remain as an invaluable fully searchable repository for all historic club news. The site is live and can be found at https://traleeparnells.gaa.ie.

Lotto
To support the cost of running our ever expanding club a bi-weekly lotto will start this week with the first draw on the evening of Monday 4th July. The initial jackpot will be 1000 euro. Players must select 4 out of 28 numbers and can play 3 lines for 5 euro. To play follow the link on our new web site https://traleeparnells.gaa.ie or use the Clubforce app. Remember, if you’re not in you can’t win that jackpot !
